David W.C. Clark, an attorney accused of paying Wall Street Journal reporter R. Foster Winans for tips about his upcoming stocks column, was convicted on 16 counts of mail and wire fraud, tax evasion, false statements and perjury. Judge John Keenan scheduled sentencing for Jan. 7 and ordered Clark, 37, to post a $500,000 bond to be secured by $50,000 in cash. The charges stem from Clark’s stock trading with $3.7 million of funds held in the accounts of clients of the law firm that employed him, Appleton, Rice and Perin. The jury found that Clark had funneled money from clients’ accounts without their knowledge, into his own account at Kidder, Peabody & Co.
