The Truths About Acting

Mind if I inject a little dose of reality when it comes to the “hell” situation for all these people claiming to be “actors” (Calendar Letters, Nov. 22, 1987)?

Everyone knows the unemployment situation is merely an example of a working karma balance. Do these pompous, look-at-me-and-love-me’s deserve anything more for their selfish drive to promote their own names and faces? They don’t exactly inspire the same sort of sympathy as teachers, social workers or paramedics.

Aren’t they really upset because anyone that can read out loud has all the credentials needed for their profession? Isn’t Arnold Schwarzenegger one of the most successful actors of our time? It must be frustrating to fight so hard to be recognized as a special person knowing they can train dogs and monkeys to excel at your job.

Aren’t these “actors” the same egotistical show-offs we all try to avoid at parties? You know, the people that talk about themselves all night, never moving out of the position in which they can best monitor their own expressions in the mirror. Can’t we pass a law to rid our state of the 90% of them that never get any work?
