Boston U. Pulls Away From USC in Second Half, 75-53

Drederick Irving scored 20 of his 26 points after intermission as Boston University pulled away for a 75-53 victory over USC in the consolation game of the Central Fidelity Holiday basketball tournament Saturday night.

USC (0-2) made only 6 of 21 shots in the first half but hit 16 of 24 free throws and was locked in a 29-29 tie at halftime.

While the Trojans missed their first eight shots of the second half, Boston U. opened up a 36-29 lead before USC cut it to 36-33 with 14:30 left.

But Irving, a 6-foot 4-inch senior guard, sparked a 16-4 run by the Terriers with a pair of three-point field goals, a baseline jumper, a free throw and an assist to give Boston a 52-37 bulge with 7:26 remaining.

Boston U. (1-1) also got 12 points from Larry Jones.

Chris Moore scored 11 points and Chris Munk 10 for the Trojans.
