Girls’ Roundup : Foothill Rallies Past Cypress Behind Fox

Tanya Fox had 21 points and 7 rebounds as Foothill High School rallied in the second half to beat Cypress, 54-46, in a nonleague girls’ basketball game at Foothill Thursday night.

The Knights (1-0) trailed, 25-20, at halftime, but outscored the Centurions, 11-4, during the third quarter to take a 31-29 lead.

Selman Ashley added 14 points for the Knights.

Cypress (0-1) was led by Staci Koska, who scored 15 points, and Shawn Murakoshi, who had 11.

In other nonleague games:

Canyon 57, Sunny Hills 18--Lisa Iino had 15 points and 8 rebounds for the host Comanches (1-1). Teammate Keri Erkenbrec added 12 points and 12 rebounds. Sunny Hills is 0-1.

Southeast Lutheran 59, Garden Grove Claremont 16--Genie Sanchez scored 32 points to lead Southeast Lutheran in South Gate.

Mission Viejo 55, Tustin 40--The Diablos, the Southern Section’s 3-A champions last season, were paced by Tricia Stringam’s 22 points. Mission Viejo is 2-0.

Estancia 54, Laguna Hills 39--Shawna Newbern scored 22 points for the host Eagles (2-0). Shannon Suzuki added 12 rebounds and 9 steals for the Eagles. Christy Grebel scored 12 points for the Hawks (0-2).

In the Artesia Tournament:

Fountain Valley 65, Long Beach Jordan 29--The Barons won the opening-round game as Danielle Barlow, a junior center, had a game-high 13 points. Kami Bigler and Yvette Ybarra scored 12 and 10 points, respectively, for Fountain Valley (2-0).

In the San Gabriel Tournament:

Ocean View 46, Chino 32--The Seahawks (1-1), who trailed by 18-13 at halftime, outscored Chino 15-4 in the fourth quarter to pull away. Erika Whistler had 16 points and 8 rebounds to lead Ocean View. Teammate Jenny Albright scored 12 points and center Jenny Sullivan grabbed 12 rebounds.

In the University-Irvine Tournament:

Edison 57, Irvine 54--The Chargers’ Krisden Tanabe, a junior point guard, had 18 points, 20 rebounds and 8 assists in the quarterfinal win over the Vaqueros. Wendy Sandstebt added 17 points for the Chargers. Edison (2-0) advanced to the semifinals against La Quinta.
