New York Rangers goaltender Bob Froese lost his spot in the National Hockey League record book when, after a videotape review, the league took away a freak goal awarded him in a game Sunday night.

Froese originally was credited with only the second goal ever scored by a goaltender in the NHL’s 71-year history, during the second period of a 3-1 victory over the New York Islanders. But after a review of the play by official scorer Ed Hertensten, the goal was credited to defenseman David Shaw, who was judged to have been the last Ranger to touch the puck.
