Boy Pulled From River to Go Home Next Week
A boy who was considered clinically dead when he was pulled from a river after spending 45 minutes underwater will be released from the hospital Monday, officials said Thursday.
“He can’t wait to go home,” St. Luke’s Hospital spokeswoman Jane Heilmann said of Alvaro Garza Jr., 11. “He’s doing great.”
Garza was brought to the hospital on Dec. 4 after falling through ice on the Red River near his family’s apartment in Moorhead, Minn. Doctors were unable to detect any sign of life in the youth, but within four days he was able to communicate with his father and identify other family members.
