Banned Fighter Seeks U.S. Match

LONDON — Light-heavyweight boxer Bobby Frankham, who had his British license taken away for punching a referee, thinks he can continue fighting in the United States.
The mass circulation News of the World on Sunday quoted the 23-year-old fighter as saying he still has a permit to box in the United States, where he figures the rules governing boxers’ licenses are not so strict.
“If you’re banned from fighting in one state, you can just move to another one or even change your name,” Frankham was quoted as saying.
Last week, the British Boxing Board of Control took away Frankham’s license indefinitely after he punched a referee who had stopped a fight in his opponent’s favor.
According to the News of the World, however, Frankham did not see the action as a life ban and he vowed he would be back in a British ring.
“I hope to get my license back in a year’s time,” he was quoted as saying.
