Nineteen grocery owners and managers were indicted Monday on charges of bribing a federal official to obtain food stamp licenses and then illegally cashing in thousands of dollars in food stamps.

The suspects made more than $30,000 in payoffs to Daniel Ramos, former office manager of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutritional Services Division in New York, who has pleaded guilty to bribery charges and resigned his post, authorities said.
