Getting some nice finishing touches from Brooks Barnhard, Escondido defeated El Camino, 70-68, Friday night in an Avocado League game.

Barnhard, a 6-foot 8-inch junior center, scored 8 points in the final 3 minutes 10 seconds.

Barnhard, who had 28 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocked shots, played to a standoff with El Camino’s 6-6 senior Lee Cobb, an all-county player as a junior. Cobb had 28 points and 12 rebounds, but was held to just 9 points in the second half as Barnhard played the base line of a 1-3-1 defense to perfection.

Less than three minutes into the final quarter, El Camino’s second leading scorer, Scott Oatsvall, fouled out with El Camino leading, 58-56.

With El Camino (10-4, 3-1) holding a 62-59 lead, Barnhard reversed his dribble and spun to the baseline around Cobb for a layup. Forty seconds later, Barnhard made both ends of a one-and-one, to put Escondido on top to stay, 63-62. Bone stole the ensuing El Camino inbounds pass and made a 17-foot jumper from straight away.
