Ferdinand Is Horse of the Year

NEW YORK —
Ferdinand, who won his last four starts, edged grass specialist Theatrical in voting for the 1987 Horse of the Year today. Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner Alysheba finished third.
Ferdinand clinched the honor when he beat Alysheba by a nose in the $3-million Breeders’ Cup Classic Nov. 21 at Hollywood Park.
