Professional tennis players will no longer be required to play tournaments in South Africa, according to The New York Times, which quoted Philippe Chatrier, president of the International Tennis Federation as saying from Australia: “It was not an easy decision. South Africa was a founding member of the ITF. It was an important move on our part, though, and we think it sends a clear signal. We won’t ask players to go to South Africa. We will leave it to their conscience.”
