THE PREPS : Girls’ Basketball : Rodriguez Sparks Santiago’s Victory
Carolyn Rodriguez sparked a fourth-quarter run that gave Santiago High School a 37-30 Garden Grove League girls’ basketball victory over Kennedy Wednesday at Santiago.
Although Rodriguez, a senior guard, scored only four points, she had four steals, four rebounds and two assists during the final five minutes. During that span, the Cavaliers (12-4 overall, 6-2 in league) turned a three-point lead into a nine-point advantage.
Senior Center Carolyn Burns led Santiago with 16 points and 12 rebounds.
Michelle Harris scored 11 points for the Fighting Irish (6-9, 5-4).
In another Garden Grove League game:
La Quinta 92, Bolsa Grande 24--Donna Gondringer, a senior center, scored 36 points on 17-of-25 shooting from the field for La Quinta (16-3, 9-0). Tanya Krill, a sophomore forward, added a career-high 18 points for the Aztecs. Chris Milia had 10 points for Bolsa Grande.
In the Express League:
Claremont 38, Harbor Christian 31--Hope Norris led the visiting Wolfpack (2-10, 2-6) with 23 points and 12 rebounds.
