City Honors 10 Firms
Carson, which has no property tax, honored its 10 top generators of sales tax at a recent luncheon.
Sales tax revenues accounted for $10.9 million--about half the general fund--during the fiscal year that ended June 30. Carson receives 1 cent of the 6 1/2 cents per dollar in collected sales tax.
The 10 firms are: American Honda Motor Co., Bayless Stationers, Carson Chrysler-Plymouth, Carson Toyota, Cormier Chevrolet, Don Kott Ford, Sears, Shell Oil Co., Stockdale Materials Co. and Yamazen U.S.A.
The exact amount that each paid is confidential under state law, but city officials said the 10 firms together contributed about $5 million.
