Mateja Svet, 19, won the last women’s giant slalom before the Olympics and gave Yugoslavia its first World Cup victory in two years at Kranjska Gora, Yugoslavia.
Svet won with an aggregate time of 2 minutes 15.75 seconds. Vreni Schneider of Switzerland was second in 2:17.41. Anita Wachter of Austria and Spain’s Blanca Fernandez-Ochoa tied for third in 2:17.82.
