CSUN Resumes WIVA Play Tuesday
The Cal State Northridge volleyball team resumes play in the Western Intercollegiate Volleyball Assn. Tuesday night when the ninth-ranked Matadors travel to Pepperdine for a match with the fifth-ranked Waves.
CSUN (3-6, 0-1) lost its WIVA opener to Hawaii while Pepperdine (2-1, 1-0) defeated Cal State Long Beach.
Setter Doug Rigg, who is a three-time All-American, is the only senior in Pepperdine’s starting six, which includes Mark Root, a freshman middle blocker from Chatsworth High.
Northridge is led by middle blocker Jeff Campbell, who had 18 kills against Hawaii, and outside hitter John Damitz, who had nine.
“They’ve got the physical talent, there’s no question about that,” Pepperdine Coach Rod Wilde said. “Whichever team passes the best will probably play the best on Tuesday.”
