Weintraub Taps Rosenzweig as TV Unit Chief

Barney Rosenzweig, a 29-year television veteran and executive producer of the much honored network series “Cagney & Lacey,” has been named to the newly created position of chairman of the television division at Weintraub Entertainment Group. He also was named corporate vice president and a member of the executive committee.

Rosenzweig said he had never given “serious consideration” to becoming an executive for any company in the industry, but that it was “a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.”

Although he has already assumed his new post at Weintraub, he will continue producing “Cagney & Lacey” for the rest of the current season and will remain as its consultant for future seasons.

Rosenzweig, 58, has among his credits the production of the Golden Globe Award-winning miniseries of John Steinbeck’s “East of Eden.” He has also made movies for television.

His first show business job was in the mail room at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio, where he later became a publicist. He began his television career at age 29, when he took over the “Daniel Boone” network series for three seasons.

Jerry Weintraub, chairman of Weintraub Entertainment, said Rosenzweig’s decision to become a key member of the firm’s management “significantly enhances the capability of our company in this highly competitive environment.”
