Local News in Brief : Woman Killed in Fire at Abandoned House
Ahomeless woman died early Monday in a fire at an abandoned house in North Hollywood, authorities said.
The fire started shortly after 1 a.m. in the house in the 10600 block of 10646 Moorpark Street, said Jim Wells, Los Angeles City Fire Department spokesman. The house was scheduled for demolition, he said.
The name of the 33-year-old victim was not disclosed pending notification of relatives.
There was no evidence of foul play, said Los Angeles Police Sgt. Ike Langsam. Fire officials speculated that the woman entered the house in search of shelter. They are investigating whether she started the fire to keep warm, Wells said.
The partially burned house was one of several vacant single-family homes “known to be crash pads for local transients,” Langsam said.
