Barrett Heads List of 3 Players to Sign Letters of Intent Feb. 10
Times All-Valley quarterback Jeff Barrett of Burroughs High verbally committed to attend Nevada Reno, San Fernando wide receiver-safety Brent Huff announced he will attend Cal and Simi Valley lineman Jon Jones committed to Nevada Las Vegas on Wednesday. High school players cannot sign letters of intent until next Wednesday.
Barrett (6-1, 180), who led the Indians to the Northwestern Conference final, passed for 2,109 yards and 20 touchdowns in 14 games. He completed 140 of 237 attempts (59%) and was named to the California Football magazine honorable mention all-state team.
Huff (5-10, 175), an All-Valley League selection, caught 11 passes for 163 yards (14.8 a catch) for the Tigers, who advanced to the semifinals of the City Section 4-A Division playoffs. Overall, Huff scored three touchdowns and had two interceptions.
Huff joins tight end-linebacker David Wilson of Reseda and kicker Chris Noonan of Chaminade in committing to Cal.
Chris Richards, a 1984 San Fernando graduate, is a starting running back at the Berkeley school. Huff stayed with Richards on a recent visit to the school, Tiger Coach Tom Hernandez said.
Jones, a 6-4, 245-pound offensive lineman, was injured for all but the first three games of the season.
