All-American Jacobs to Attend UCLA
Brian Jacobs of Hart High, the Valley’s most sought-after lineman, verbally committed to UCLA on Thursday. He joins Canoga Park’s Dave Audelo as the second area lineman to announce that he will attend the school. High school players cannot sign letters of intent until Wednesday.
Jacobs, a 6-5, 270-pound offensive tackle, selected UCLA over USC, Arizona State and Washington. He is a two-time All-Valley selection and was named to USA Today’s high school All-American team.
He will become the third Hart graduate on the Bruin team, joining Jim Bonds, a redshirt freshman quarterback, and junior defensive lineman Steve Mehr.
Jacobs said UCLA’s honesty in the recruiting battle swayed him to Westwood.
“UCLA has always been straightforward and I appreciated that,” he said.
In other signings, Kennedy defensive back Tony Brown verbally committed to Fresno State, although he will not visit the school until this weekend.
Brown, who intercepted four passes last season, will work with Fresno State assistant Rod Perry, a former All-Pro defensive back for the Rams.
Montclair Prep players Jason Bailey and Adam Fishman also have selected colleges. Bailey, a 6-2, 205-pound linebacker, will attend Vanderbilt. Fishman, a kicker, will attend Pennsylvania, which offers no athletic scholarships.
