William D. Witherspoon, Veteran L.A. Investment Broker
William D. Witherspoon, 95, a longtime Los Angeles investment broker and philanthropist who was a founder of the Hathaway Home for Children in Pacoima, now called Hathaway Children’s Services. The home for disturbed and abused children was founded in 1963 on land donated by the Cecil B. DeMille estate and Witherspoon continued to contribute to it until his death. Witherspoon, who founded his Witherspoon & Co. Inc. in 1931 was a direct descendant of John Witherspoon, a signer of the Declaration of Independence. In Santa Monica on Friday.
