THE PREPS : Century League Basketball : Joyce Scores 31 for Santa Ana
Bobby Joyce scored 31 points and had 15 rebounds to lead Santa Ana High School to an 86-59 Century League victory Friday over El Modena at home.
The victory improved Santa Ana’s league record to 8-0 and clinched the league championship. Santa Ana has won four Century League championships in the last five seasons.
Forward Oscar Wilson had 14 points and guard Scootie Lynwood had 4 points and 12 assists. Santa Ana is 21-3 overall.
Santa Ana took an 18-12 lead after the first quarter and put the game away in the second quarter when it outscored El Moden, 29-12. Joyce had 10 points in the second quarter to lead Santa Ana to a 47-24 halftime lead.
El Modena (9-12, 3-5) was led by Robbie Pietcsh’s 25 points. Marcus Esposito added 15 points.
Foothill 73, Villa Park 37--Bill Mazurie scored 18 points and John Willsie 12 to lead Foothill (13-7, 6-2) at Villa Park. Foothill had 11 players score. Villa Park (2-18, 0-8) was led by Robie Branstine’s 8 points. Twelve players scored for Villa Park, 10 with four or fewer points.
Santa Ana Valley 59, Canyon 56--Steve Calhoun scored 19 points and Roshawn Lacy added 11 to lead Santa Ana Valley (13-9, 5-3) at Canyon. Santa Ana Valley trailed Canyon, 21-12, after the first quarter. Canyon (9-13, 2-6) was led by Ralph Pacheco, who scored 13 points.
