Kathy Riggin of West Covina has been named director of medical records at Terrace Plaza Medical Center in Baldwin Park. Riggin graduated from Indiana University and is an accredited records technician.
Sophie C. Wong of Monterey Park has been appointed to the Small Business Administration Region IX Los Angeles Advisory Council. Wong previously served as a delegate to the 1986 White House Conference on Small Business in Washington, D. C. The council provides information about small business needs and opportunities.
Marie Koenig has been named president of the Pasadena Republican Women’s Club, Federated Executive Board Officers. Gina Turner, Eileen Gannon, Helen Huntington, Ann Edmundson and Virginia Fogg were named vice presidents.
Gerald L. Starrh has been elected president of the Society of Logistics Engineers. Starrh is the support systems operations manager for Aerojet ElectroSystems Co. in Azusa. The society is an international organization made up of representatives from industry, government, education and commercial enterprises.
Dave Brock has been named president of the Foothill Apartment Assn. of the San Gabriel Valley and the Foothill Communities. Brock is a partner in the property management firm of Beven & Brock. Lynne Frances, owner of Rainbow Cleaning Service, has been named first vice president, and Glenn Cato of C & C Properties has been named second vice president.
Steven M. Cohan of Upland has been appointed horticulture director of Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden in Claremont. Cohan received an undergraduate degree in horticulture from Iowa State University and completed graduate and doctoral work in plant genetics at Pennsylvania State University. He previously served as a senior research biologist at Monsanto and director of plant breeding research for the Pan American Seed Co.
George Carlson, an astronomy instructor at Citrus College in Glendora, has been granted a Citrus College Foundation Faculty Research Grant. Carlson will conduct research and develop astronomy software. Carlson received his doctorate in physics from UC Davis.
Peg Stewart of Pasadena has been appointed president of the Pasadena Historical Society Board of Trustees. Stewart is chairman of the Cultural Heritage Commission and former community vice president of the Junior League of Pasadena. Richard Meriwether and Mary Coquillard have been appointed vice presidents.
Elena Gaspari of Arcadia has been elected president of the Arcadia Golden Age Club. Margaret Schenstrom and Christine Kreutzer have been elected vice presidents. The Arcadia Golden Age Club provides activities and programs for senior citizens.
James E. Halferty of Pasadena has been named to the Board of Governors that oversees the operations of the Los Angeles County Department of Arboreta by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Halferty serves as consultant to Parsons Corp. in Pasadena.
Darryl Garrison of West Covina won a first-place award from the American Society for Microbiology, Southern California branch, for his research on molecular cloning to prevent and treat cancer in mice. Garrison is a graduate student in biological sciences at Cal Poly Pomona.
Wendell Wellman, owner of a West Covina travel agency, has been appointed to the West Covina Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors. Wellman has been a member of the chamber of commerce since 1975.
Leslie A. Miles has been promoted to dean of admissions and financial aid at Scripps College in Claremont. Miles previously served as director of admissions. Miles received an undergraduate degree from Skidmore College and a graduate degree from Boston University.
Dr. Diane Bellwood of Upland has been accepted into the Citrus Chiropractic Society. Bellwood graduated from Pasadena College of Chiropractic Medicine and has a private practice in Covina. Bellwood is secretary of the Covina Breakfast Kiwanis Club.
Arleigh P. Helfer of Arcadia has been elected president of the Arcadia Senior Men’s Club. William L. Giannini has been elected vice president. Helfer is a former electrical engineer and manager at Bell and Howell and General Dynamics.
Gene Tobias, a physiology professor at Los Angeles College of Chiropractic in Whittier, has been appointed to the Council on Chiropractic Education Task Force on Admissions. The task force makes recommendations on admission standards.
