THE PREPS : South CoastLeague Basketball : Mission Viejo Loses, 66-50, to Cougars
Scott McCorkle scored a game-high 18 points to lead Capistrano Valley High School to a 66-50 come-from-behind victory over Mission Viejo Friday in a South Coast League boys’ basketball game at Mission Viejo.
Mission Viejo, alternating its starters with reserves, led, 27-21, at halftime.
Capistrano Valley, which is the top-ranked team in the Orange County Sportswriters’ Assn. poll, outscored Mission Viejo, 39-23, in the second half.
Charles Lockard and Jim Waikle scored 12 each for Capistrano Valley (22-4, 10-0), which has 17 straight victories. Tom Tkach led Mission Viejo (11-13, 4-6) with nine points.
El Toro 65, Irvine 55--Bret Johnson scored 19 points to lead El Toro (8-2) at Irvine. The victory clinched second place for El Toro, which trailed, 11-6, after the first quarter. But El Toro outscored Irvine (12-13, 5-5), 21-14, in the second quarter with Khari Johnson scoring nine points, including three dunks. Bryan Allred led Irvine with 18 points.
Dana Hills 67, San Clemente 43--Tyrone Meixsell scored 16 points and John Lloyd and Mike Sedden each added 10 to lead Dana Hills (10-14, 3-7).
