Cityhood Petition Valid
The executive officer of the county Local Agency Formation Commission has certified that enough valid signatures were collected to qualify a petition seeking incorporation for a proposed city of Malibu.
A review of names on the required application for incorporation shows that at least 25% of the 8,347 registered voters in the area had signed the petition, Ruth Benell said.
The commission will process the incorporation application over the next three to six months and will hold public hearings into the proposal. Unless more than 50% of the voters protest the incorporation in writing, the Board of Supervisors would be required to call for an election in Malibu.
If approved by voters, the City of Malibu would join the county’s 85 other cities. A proposal to incorporate the City of Calabasas is also pending before the commission.
