City Section officials have rejected an appeal by Granada Hills Kennedy High School over a decision by referees to use a television replay to change a call in Thursday’s game against Fairfax.

According to City Commissioner Hal Harkness, there is no system of appeals for high school basketball games, so the protest will not be reviewed.

Kennedy made an apparent three-point shot with seconds left to tie the score, 32-32. One official ruled the basket a three-point shot, but the baseline official disagreed. After the game ended moments later, the officials conferred and then watched a replay of the shot supplied by a local cable television company that broadcast the game.

Kennedy filed a protest Tuesday morning asking that the ruling be disallowed and that the overtime period be played. The National Federation of State High School Assns. prohibits the use of television replays.
