McMartin Witness Sentenced in Theft

The key jail house informant in the McMartin Pre-School molestation trial, a five-time convicted felon, was sentenced Wednesday to 13 years in state prison for an unrelated residential robbery.

George Freeman pleaded guilty last month to a single count of robbery and was sentenced by Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Lillian Stevens.

Prosecutors said Freeman broke into a La Canada Flintridge residence armed with a handgun Nov. 23 and robbed a woman of more than $3,000 in jewelry.

The robbery occurred the month after Freeman testified at the McMartin Pre-School molestation trial. Freeman testified that while in County Jail with defendant Raymond Buckey in 1984, Buckey admitted molesting children at the nursery.

Buckey, 29, and his mother, Peggy McMartin Buckey, 60, are on trial on one count of conspiracy and 99 counts of child molestation for allegedly sexually assaulting 14 of their students at t1751457902in Manhattan Beach from 1978 to 1983.
