DETROIT — Ford Motor Co., which posted industry record profits of nearly $4.63 billion for 1987, shared some of its wealth today by announcing its eligible hourly and salaried workers will receive profit-sharing checks averaging $3,700.
A record amount of more than $635 million will be distributed among about 160,000 eligible workers March 8, company spokesman Michael Moran said. During 1987, Ford’s hourly and salaried U.S. work force averaged 180,700 workers. The record pay-outs are believed to be the largest ever by a major U.S. corporation.
