The World : 2 Soviet Officers Detained
Two Soviet army officers were detained in West Berlin on suspicion of spying, police there said. Allied sources said the two men were “engaged in the act of meeting with an agent” in the area of Kurfuerstendamm, Berlin’s famous central shopping street. They described the incident as “serious and unacceptable” but said that it had happened before. A British military spokesman said that after establishing that the two men were Soviet officers, they were handed over to Soviet authorities and are now back in East Berlin.
