An appellate panel of the San Francisco Superior Court said it will soon resolve the case of a 5-year-old pit bull that has been confined in a cage for 430 days after two attacks on people. The dog, known as Hee-Bee and Mean Mama Mollie, was sentenced to death last year by a Municipal Court judge, but its owner appealed on grounds that the judge had no right to impose the sentence. The San Francisco Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has asked permission to put the dog to sleep on grounds that confinement in a small cage for such a lengthy period of time is more cruel than administering a lethal injection.
