Long Beach Women Win 10th Straight
Junior Shameil Coleman scored a career-high 24 points to lead the 12th-ranked Cal State Long Beach women’s basketball team to a 77-65 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory over Hawaii Thursday night at Long Beach.
Coleman, who scored 14 points in the second half, also had 10 rebounds. Traci Waites added 16 points and had 6 assists as Long Beach extended its winning streak to 10 games.
Long Beach, 18-5 overall and 4-0 in the PCAA, led by as many as 16 points and was ahead, 44-32, at the half.
Hawaii got as close as 63-57 with 5:50 left in the game, but Long Beach went on a 7-2 run over the next three minutes to push the lead to 70-59 with 2:31 remaining.
Judy Mosley paced Hawaii (13-11 and 7-8) with 22 points and 16 rebounds.
With the score tied, 15-15, and 3:50 left in the first half, Long Beach outscored Hawaii, 18-6.
