Local News in Brief : Pact to Run Coliseum Near

A contract for private management of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum may be completed in two weeks, according to the Coliseum complex’s general manager, Joel Ralph.

In a message to Coliseum commissioners, Ralph said the latest projected dates for submitting the management contract to the commission for ratification are either March 10 or 12. He said the estimate is based on the assumption that there will be no further complications in the protracted negotiations between Coliseum representatives and a business partnership of MCA’s Music Entertainment Group and Spectacor Management.

The talks have already lasted more than a month longer than originally projected. But Irving Azoff, head of the MCA subsidiary, said Friday that “we’ve finally arrived at a verbal deal” and that MCA’s lawyers have finished an 88-page draft agreement that would implement it. He divulged no details.

Azoff said the draft would be submitted to commission negotiators next week.

One announced aim of putting the Coliseum under private management is to restart talks with the Los Angeles Raiders about conditions under which the football team might keep playing in the Coliseum rather than move to suburban Irwindale.
