Patricia Cooksey broke Patti Barton’s record for most wins by a female jockey when she recorded two first-place finishes at Turfway Park in Florence, Ky.

Cooksey, 30, of Newton Falls, Ohio, tied the record at 1,202 career victories when she guided Touch Lightly to a victory in the first race. She surpassed it by riding Mean Action to a win in the eighth race.

Cooksey got a hug from Barton, who has been in Kentucky as a guest of the track in anticipation of the record-breaking ride. Barton established the record in 1984.
