SCC’s Dixon Named to All-District Team

Todd Dixon, Southern California College’s leading scorer, Sunday was named to the NAIA all-District III basketball team by a vote of conference coaches.

Dixon, who averages 15 points and 7 assists a game, will lead fourth-seeded SCC (17-13) in the first round of the district playoffs against Christian Heritage Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. at Costa Mesa.

Steve DeLavega of Cal Lutheran was named player of the year and Biola’s Dave Holmquist was named coach of the year.

Mike Kelly of Westmont, who played at Mater Dei and Orange Coast College and Paul Horn of Biola, who played at Western and Cypress College, were named to the district team.

Also named: John Griffin of Biola; Bill Desrochers of Azusa Pacifica; Michael Banks of Cal Baptist; Mark Kraatz of Christian Heritage; Brian Falls of Fresno Pacific and Brad Schmidt of Westmont.

Top-seeded Biola will play host to Fresno Pacific in another first-round district playoff game Tuesday night. Azusa Pacific plays at No. 2 Westmont and Cal Lutheran is at No. 3 Cal Baptist.
