Women’s Basketball Roundup : USC Shoots Down Cal, 98-66

USC’s women’s basketball team went on a three-point shooting binge in the first half Thursday night on its way to a 98-66 victory over California at the Sports Arena.
The Trojans (19-6 overall, 13-2 in the Pacific 10 Conference) made all seven of its three-point shots in the first half, with forward Karon Howell making 4 of 4. USC missed its only two three-point shots in the second half.
Cal dropped to 14-13, 5-10.
USC center Cherie Nelson scored 20 points and Howell had 18. The Trojans will play league leader Stanford (25-1, 13-1) Saturday night in the USC campus gym.
CS Long Beach 91, UC Santa Barbara 64--Reserve Dana Wilkerson scored 18 points and Shameil Coleman scored 13 off the bench as the 49ers downed the Gauchos in a Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. game at Long Beach.
Penny Toler added 15 points and 9 assists for Long Beach (21-5, 17-0).
Patti Niichel scored 22 points for Santa Barbara (10-15, 3-14), while Kira Anthofer had 14 points and 20 rebounds.
