Chapman College collected 14 hits, including four home runs, against injury-riddled Loyola Marymount on Wednesday to post an 11-5 upset in a non-conference baseball game at Loyola.

The Lions, ranked No. 6 in the nation by Collegiate Baseball, fell to 17-5 while Chapman, a Division II school, improved to 12-10-1.

Loyola played the game without its top two catchers and starting center fielder because of injuries. Starting catcher Miah Bradbury suffered a broken finger in Tuesday’s 6-5 loss to Cal State Los Angeles and backup Mark Graffiti is out with a broken wrist. Center fielder Brian Turang went down last weekend with a sprained ankle.

Carl Fraticelli, normally the Lions’ shortstop, had to play second base on Wednesday because of a sore shoulder.

Chapman shortstop Jeff Kidwiler (2-for-3) sparked a four-run third inning with a two-run homer as the Panthers opened a 5-0 lead. Mike Grahovak hit a three-run homer in the fourth to make it 8-0. Chris Cuttiff and Paul Swingle added solo shots for Chapman.

Left-hander Joe Summers suffered the loss, giving up seven hits and eight runs (five earned) in four innings. It was the freshman’s first decision. The Lions used a total of five pitchers.
