Aztecs’ Perry Is Named One of PCAA Players of Year

Chana Perry, San Diego State’s junior center, and Penny Toler of Cal State Long Beach have been named Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. women’s basketball players of the year.

Toler, a junior guard, played her freshman season at SDSU before transferring.

Joining Perry and Toler on the All-PCAA first team are Aztec junior forward Jessica Haynes; Pauline Jordan, a sophomore forward/center from Nevada Las Vegas; Amy Torczon, a senior forward from Cal State Fullerton, and Yvette Roberts, a junior forward from Fresno State.

The Aztecs’ Dee Dee Davis, a guard, was named to the All-PCAA freshman team.

BASEBALL

Pitcher John Olerud retired 18 of the last 19 batters and hit a two-run homer in the fifth to lead 18th-ranked Washington State to a 4-1 victory over San Diego State at Smith Field.

The Aztecs (11-9-1) could manage only a two-out walk in the fifth after the third inning.

SDSU plays host to the Cougars (9-0) again tonight at 7 p.m.

Earlier in the day, Washington State scored four runs in the fifth inning to rally for a 6-2 victory at USIU.

Mike McNally had a solo home run in the third for Washington State. Todd Kynett was 2 for 2 and Pat Cheek was 2 for 3, including a triple for the Gulls (8-12-1).

VOLLEYBALL

Hugh Foster had 15 kills for San Diego State as the No. 11 Aztecs crushed Navy, 15-4, 15-9, 15-2, at Peterson Gym. SDSU (9-9) hosts Loyola Marymount at 7:30 p.m. Friday.
