Santa Monica : Montana Ave. Study Slated

Concerned Homeowners of Santa Monica has established a Montana Avenue task force to study zoning, traffic and density on the fashionable commercial street.

Research will be a primary focus of the new group, according to Jean Sedillos, co-chairman of the homeowners association. “You can’t just lash out at developers and not have positive suggestions,” she said.

Sedillos said the task force, which has about 25 members, hopes to work with city government and developers to create a comprehensive plan for the avenue, along the lines of Santa Monica’s Main Street Plan, which limits commercial development on parts of Main Street.

The homeowners group also will work on community outreach and publicity, said member Mackenzie Waggaman. Waggaman is heading a petition drive against a proposal that would narrow traffic on Montana from two lanes to one in each direction and would create diagonal parking on the street.
