Conflict in the Occupied Territories

In your editorial of March 1, “No West Bank Cover-Up,” you ask Israel to live up to its democratic ideals and not ban journalists and TV cameras from the scenes of combat lest Israeli democracy lose something that it might not easily be able to recover.

Of course, such bans are deplorable. But remember Britain’s Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s intervention in the Falklands? Did her democratic government allow reporters or TV cameras? And remember Grenada? Journalists were not invited in there either by our democratic leaders.

I hope with all my heart that Israel will be able to resist such measures, but it is definitely reprehensive to continually apply a double standard when it concerns small, beleaguered Israel.
