High School Spring Sports : Royal Fells Simi Valley in Volleyball

Dean Borth had 42 assists and 18 service points and Corey Herbert had 14 kills and 10 blocks to lead Royal to a 15-10, 15-12, 10-15, 15-9 victory over Simi Valley in a nonleague volleyball match at Royal.

Royal is undefeated in its first year of interscholastic competition after 4 matches. Ethan Weiss and Craig Parker added 15 kills each for the Highlanders.

Simi Valley dropped to 0-1.

Crespi d. St. John Bosco, 15-5, 15-9, 15-0--Steve Lepire had 8 kills and Ken Lynch added 6 kills and 4 blocks as the Celts (5-0, 3-0 in league) defeated St. John Bosco in a Del Rey League match at Crespi.

Rio Mesa d. Hart, 15-9, 15-4, 15-13--Despite 10 kills by Peter Quinlan and 7 by Bruce Gray, Hart dropped a nonleague match at Rio Mesa.

Mike Scherm contributed 13 service points, including 2 aces, for Hart (1-3).

BOYS’ TENNIS

Westlake 5, Palisades 2--Darin Pleasant, Westlake’s No. 1 singles player, defeated Mason Harris to lead the Warriors in the nonleague match at Palisades.

Andy DeVore also won in singles, along with Robert Light. In doubles, Mike Studebaker and Todd Robinson and Conrad Lai and Buddy Turl scored victories.

Westlake improved to 3-0.
