The first foreign mission under a new law to promote U.S. agricultural trade will go to Indonesia and the Philippines this spring.

Exact dates will be negotiated with the countries, although Agriculture Secretary Richard E. Lyng said the trip will be in mid-spring.

The mission will include representatives from the departments of Agriculture and State, and the U.S. Agency for International Development. Three to six representatives of the private sector also will be selected for the trip.

By offering specially designed packages of U.S. trade and food assistance, the goal of the program is to help the designated countries develop and to become larger markets for American farmers.
