UCI Extension, the continuing-education branch of UC Irvine, has won three national awards.

The National University Continuing Education Assn. gave its Creative Program Award to UCI Extension for “The Great Quake Awareness Day” held last April. That event, directed by Curt Abdouch, science program coordinator, was designed to inform area residents about earthquake preparedness. About 2,000 people attended.

The national group awarded a Bronze Award of Excellence to UCI Extension for a news release and an honorable mention for the overall publicity campaign associated with “Hazardous Materials Awareness Week” on the campus last November. The news release, by Judy Lloyd, focused on hazardous materials found in homes.
