Renato Salvatori, 55, the former lifeguard who became a star of the Italian cinema. Salvatori was working on an Italian beach in 1951 when he was discovered by director Luciano Emmer and given a role in “The Children of Piazza di Spagna.” That movie began a film career that included, among many others, Dino Risi’s “Poor but Pretty,” Luchino Visconti’s “Rocco and His Brothers” and Francesco Rosi’s “The Peddlers.” In Rome on Sunday of a liver ailment.
