25 Verified to Compete June 7 for Council Seats in Proposed City
The Orange County registrar of voters Friday verified 25 candidates for the June 7 City Council race in the proposed city that would include Dana Point, Capistrano Beach and coastal Laguna Niguel.
If voters approve the measure to incorporate the 6-square-mile area, the five candidates receiving the most votes will become the first City Council on Jan. 1, 1989.
Of the 25 candidates running, 15 are from Dana Point, six are from Laguna Niguel and four are from Capistrano Beach.
The field of candidates will be Orange County’s largest since 1979, when 36 ran for the City Council in San Clemente.
The candidates are: Bill Bamattre, 36, of Dana Point, Los Angeles firefighter; Tom Brabeck, 40, of Dana Point, real estate broker; Ron Buchheim, 41, of Dana Point, Dana Hills High School teacher; Chuck Chapin, 32, of Capistrano Beach, administrator at Cal State Fullerton; Ed Conway, 39, of Dana Point, real-estate agent.
Judy Curreri, 45, of Dana Point, nurse; Addison Deboi, 37, of Capistrano Beach, engineer; Mike Eggers, 40, of Dana Point, congressional aide to Rep. Ron Packard (R-Oceanside); Harold R. Kaufman, 46, of Dana Point, businessman; Bill Kennedy, 70, of Dana Point, retired automotive specialist.
Eileen Krause, 44, of Laguna Niguel, business owner; Geoffrey Lachner, 43, of Dana Point, attorney; Peg Maynard, 52, of Laguna Niguel, administrative law attorney; Harold F. McGrath, 55, of Laguna Niguel, attorney; Ingrid McGuire, 56, of Laguna Niguel, South Coast Water District board member.
Fred Mellenbruch, 41, of Laguna Niguel, real estate agent; Bob Moore, (age unavailable) of Laguna Niguel, businessman; Lynn J. Muir, 59, of Dana Point, architect; Howard Neufeld, 40, of Capistrano Beach, attorney; Louis Roberts, 36, of Dana Point, attorney.
Richard D. Runge, 53, of Dana Point, county civil engineer; W. F. (Scotty) Smith, 71, of Capistrano Beach, retired Northrop Corp. supervisor; Madrid Uso Jr., 41, of Dana Point, dentist; Brian Valerie, 37, of Dana Point, contract negotiator; William Walker, 60, of Dana Point, retired aerospace worker.
Three other people took out nomination papers, but two did not return them and one did not qualify.
