SPRINGTIME FOR HITLER?
Would it be impolite to ask why you’re reviewing the first volume of a projected 14-volume opus aimed at rehabilitating Hitler? (“Hitler: Born at Versailles,” Book Review, March 13), written by a former “decorated SS officer.” This being The Times, I assume it’s not a hoax.
Since your Book Review section isn’t large to begin with (my high school paper reviewed more books), are you going to review each succeeding volume as it comes out, something like the Durants’ “Story of Civilization?” Couldn’t you find one other book more worthy of a full-length review? Based on the 550 pages in Volume I, we’re talking possibly 7,000 pages of “Springtime for Hitler.” Give us a break! The editor who assigned this review should be forced to read “Mein Kampf” in the original German.
