Girls’ Athletes of the Week : SOFTBALL
Kim Lester and Christy Serritella of Madison both were hot hitters throughout last week’s Orange Glen tournament. Lester, a junior third baseman, hit .643 (9 for 14) and drove in 10 runs. Serritella, a senior catcher, hit .619 and had a tournament-high 13 hits. Madison (14-1) lost to Patrick Henry in the final winners-bracket game but came back to win the double-elimination tournament by defeating Patrick Henry twice in the championship round. Serritella was 3 for 4 in Madison’s 7-4 victory in the championship game. Lester is now hitting .395 (15 for 38) and leads the Warhawks with 17 RBIs.
Christie Czajkowski won four games last week as Chula Vista won the Orange Glen/Easter tournament at Escondido’s Kit Carson Park.
Czajkowski, a sophomore, gave up 11 runs but struck out 15 batters in the four games. She struck out seven in each of the first two games, then gave up 7 hits and 5 runs in the 6-5 championship-game victory over San Pasqual.
GOLF
Bonita Vista golfer Christy Erb finished tied for third place in the American Junior Golf Assn. Tournament at the Woodlands, Tex., Sunday.
Erb shot a two-round total of 146. This is her first year at Bonita Vista after she transferred from USDHS.
