Train Crash Kills One, Snarls N.Y. Rush Hour

MT. VERNON, N.Y. — A railroad worker was killed and two others were injured when an empty commuter train crashed into another Wednesday. The accident shut down Metro-North’s New Haven line at the height of the morning rush hour, authorities said.
An eight-car train crashed into the rear of a five-car train that was stopped because of a problem with overhead electrical wires about a mile west of the Mt. Vernon station, just north of New York City, a police spokesman said.
