200 Seized in Anti-Gang Sweep
Another in a series of anti-gang police sweeps netted more than 200 arrests today with officers booking suspects in the field for the first time in order to expedite paper work.
But as the anti-gang task force flooded the streets of South-Central Los Angeles, suspected gang members in the Eastside shot and critically wounded a 24-year-old man shortly before midnight, Sgt. David Lewis said. The latest sweep aimed at suppressing a surge of gang violence involved a task force of about 260 officers who arrested 128 gang members and 82 others in a five-hour operation that began at 10 p.m. Wednesday.
