Six Italian Track and Field Federation officials...
Six Italian Track and Field Federation officials resigned because of their involvement in a long jump-rigging scandal at the 1987 World Championships last September in Rome.
The scandal emerged when it was discovered officials had conspired to increase the length of a jump by Italy’s Giovanni Evangelisti.
Evangelisti was awarded the bronze medal for a jump that was measured fraudulently at 27-6. Larry Myricks, who jumped 27-4, was placed fourth.
Evangelisti was cleared of any knowledge of the fraud and later renounced his medal.
