Simon Brown of the Virgin Islands overcame the only knockdown of his career and stopped Tyrone Trice in the 14th round at Berck, France, to win the vacant International Boxing Federation welterweight title.

Brown improved to 29-1 with 22 knockouts by dominating the fight from the fifth round on. He put Trice (24-2) down three times in the 12th round and again with a left uppercut early in the 14th.
