Redell Denies He’s a Candidate for Vacant Hart Football Job
Bill Redell, the Crespi High football coach, denied he is a candidate for the vacant Hart position but admitted he discussed the job informally with a group of Hart supporters.
Redell said he was approached by what he termed “well-intended people who are Hart supporters,” but will not leave Crespi.
“It’s an excellent coaching job in a great community that really supports the football program,” Redell said Saturday. “But I have every intention of staying on at Crespi.”
He also made it clear that no Hart officials have contacted him, a claim supported by Hart Principal Laurence Strauss.
“I’ve had no communication with Bill Redell and have never met him,” he said.
Strauss confirmed that Burbank Coach Dave Carson has applied for the job, made vacant when Rick Scott resigned to become the coach at Buena in Ventura. Carson’s Burbank teams were 19-23 in four years going into last season when the Bulldogs were 6-4 but had to forfeit all six victories for use of an ineligible player.
Strauss said the deadline for applications is May 2. He expects to name a coach by May 23, the opening date for spring practice.
